Our world faces an environmental crisis due to mismanaged and uncollected litter from plastic and compounded elastomer waste including end-of-life vehicle tires. Individuals and institutions contribute to more than 90% of this aggregate polymer waste undergoing landfilling, burning, and indiscriminate open dumping.
The impact of this erosion and decomposition of polymer waste poses threats to both environmental and human health. Microplastics harm aquatic life and are increasingly posing risks to human health including endocrine, reproductive, and maternal health impacting the hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, and reproductive systems.
Solving this together.
Simply arguing that we can eliminate and replace all plastic now and in the future is not feasible! We need inexpensive plastic hypodermic syringes, we need packaging that keeps our food clean and safe, we benefit from the advent of polymer based medical devices. But together, manufacturers and consumers can manage the impact of the waste that is generated from the use of these products if we have a common mission and a viable solution.
